The area is 1,095.1 square kilometers. The population is 20.1 thousand people. (2010). Center - r. the village of Atyashevo. In 1927 Kozlovskaya and Atyashevskaya Mordovian national volosts were established.

Atiashevsky district is located in the eastern part of the republic, in the forest-steppe landscapes of the erosion-denudation plain of the Volga Upland. Forest-steppe landscapes of the region are distinguished by high economic mastery. The largest protected area for a long time was the Atiashevsky State Game Reserve, on the basis of which it is expedient to organize a complex nature monument. Oak groves, secondary birch and aspen forests are habitats and rehabilitations of hog and field game, wild ungulates. As natural monuments, steppe areas are identified in the villages of Atyashevo, Kamenka, Selishchi. Of rare plants in the protected areas grows a lily-locust, meets teresken.

117 monuments were registered in the district: 42 - history, 6 - urban planning and architecture, 28 - art, 41 - archeology.

In the area there are deposits of brick clays and loamy - Atyashevskoe and Kirzhemanskoe, brick clays - Vecherleyskoe, chalk for liming of acidic soils - Atyashevskoye, construction sand - Kapasovskoye, manifestations of sandstones for rubble - Syresinskoye. The operational reserves of groundwater in the Carboniferous carbonate complex are 47.3 thousand m3 / day, including those with a mineralization up to 1 g / dm3 - 29.6 thousand m3 / day.

On the territory of the district are the upper reaches of the tributaries of Nui and Bolshaya Sarki. The total length of permanent watercourses is 377 km. The coefficient of density of the river network is 0.46 km / km2. In the 1980s. in connection with the development of irrigation reclamation, five ponds were constructed in the district, the water reserve of which amounts to 10,724 thousand m3. Part of the surface runoff was used in agricultural production. For more complete use it is necessary to expand the construction of ponds and reservoirs, which, in addition to the tasks of agricultural production, will perform fishery, recreational and other functions.

In the structure of the soil cover of agricultural lands - chernozems, gray forest, floodplain soils. Modern vegetation is represented by broad-leaved forests, the main area of ​​which tends to ostanktsovo-watershed massifs. Forest occupies only about 7% of the territory of the district. Meadow and shrub steppes are preserved along steep slopes, sides of beams.

The basis of economic development of the Atyashevsky region is the agriculture of grain-and-meat direction. An important place is given to the sowing of sugar beet. Several industrial enterprises operate on the territory of the district, the largest of which are the meat factory "Atyashevsky", a creamery. Village villages connect with each other and with the district center 344.67 km of paved roads. The settlements have been gasified.

Atyashevo is a workers' settlement (since 1963), located on the watershed of Vecherleyki (right tributary of Nui) and Bolshaya Sarki; center of the Atyashevsky district (since 1928). Population 6,2 thousand people. (2010), mainly the Mordva-Erzya.

In the vicinity of the village and the village of the same name, Atyasheva, burial mounds of the Bronze Age carcass culture are common. The settlement was founded in 1894 in the forest-steppe landscapes in connection with the construction of the Moscow-Kazan railway, the site of which was held near the village of Atyashev, founded in the first half of the 17th century. The name is anthroponym: from pre-Christian Mordovian name Atyash (Otjazh). The peasants engaged mainly in agriculture, beekeeping, hop-growing. In the regional center there are monuments to soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, and to VI Lenin.

The settlement develops along the residual-watershed massif composed of siliceous-carbonate and carbonate rocks. It is divided by railways into two parts. The main residential education is located to the north-west, between the railway and the highway to Ardatov. Atyashevo is built up predominantly by single-storey houses; the microdistrict of multi-storey building is located in the north-eastern part of the village, most industrial enterprises - in the southeast and north-east, but they do not form a single industrial zone. Urban development of new territories is advisable to implement in the north and south-west directions. In the southern part of Atyashev it is necessary to continue work on draining wetlands with the organization of a park zone.

The development of the economy began in 1932 with the commissioning of the Atiashevsky hemp factory. At present, the most successful enterprises of the region are the meat processing complex "Atyashevsky", the butter factory "Atyashevsky", the agricultural enterprises of the "Mordovsky Bacon" system.

In the village of Atyashevo there are PTTU No. 13, general education and music schools, a library, a recreation center, a youth sports school, a station for young naturalists and young tourists, a hospital; a modern sports and sports complex, a ski base.

Russian Dubrovki is a Russian village, located on the stream Ustymovka. In the planning of a rural settlement, a radial development is expressed. The population is 262 people. (2010). The name is based on the Russian word "oak". The definition of "Russians" indicates the national composition of the population. In the village, the Church of the Saints of Kosmos and Damian is preserved - a wooden building, built in 1897, imitating the stone forms of the "Russian-Byzantine style".
