The region is located in the south-west of the republic in the forest-steppe landscapes of the Volga Upland. The nature reserve "Zasecky pond" is designated as part of the PA. The hydrographic network includes the rivers of Windree, Shustrui, Panju, Partzu, Junku. In comparison with other regions of the republic, the surface runoff here is used at a low level. There is one pond with a volume of 2,030 thousand m3, created for the purpose of irrigation reclamation. In the area for the more complete use of surface runoff resources, it is advisable to create small reservoirs.

Chernozems (67%), gray forest (21%), floodplain (3%), sod-podzolic soils (2%) occupy a significant share in agricultural lands. Natural vegetation is represented by broad-leaved forests and meadow steppes. Under forests, 21.4% are occupied, and under bushes - 1.9% of the area.

In the economy of the region, the development of the agro-industrial complex is promising. There is a powerful gas compressor station of the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline. Via Torbeevo, the Saransk-Moscow highway passes. The area is gasified by 99%.

Torbeevo - Moksha-Russian working settlement (since 1959), the center of the Torbeevsky district (since 1928). The population is 9.3 thousand people. (2010).

The village is located in the forest-steppe landscapes. It is mentioned in the historical documents of 1667 as the village of Tarbeevka. The name is anthroponym: from the Turkic name Torbay. A detailed description of the nature of the surroundings of Torbeev is given in the memoirs of GI Martsev, who participated in the construction of the Moscow-Kazan railway: "Far from the future station could be seen the ramshackle village of Tarbeevka ... There were marsh swamps around. In the direction of the village of Drakino and Nikolskoe stretched an oak forest ... ". In 1893 the railway was built. In the village there operated the school of the first stage, the primary school.

In the village there was organized the House-Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union MP Devyataev - the legendary pilot who hijacked the German aircraft from the secret Peenemünde missile range. The memorial room recreates the situation characteristic for peasant houses of the 1920-1930s. In the annex there are exhibits of the prisoner of the Sachsenhaus concentration camp, photographs. In the courtyard of the house-museum the aircraft of the period of the Great Patriotic War is exposed. In the village there are monuments to soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War, and VI Lenin.

The territory of the village is a compact formation crossed by the railway from east to west. The main residential area is located in the northern part. In the north-western part on both sides of the railway, an industrial zone was formed, including all industrial and communal-warehouse enterprises, with the exception of the elevator located on the southeastern outskirts of Torbeev.

Currently, the village houses a branch of Volgotransgaz - the Torbeevskoye linear production department of the main gas pipelines, the dairy, meat and industrial complex, the elevator, the Mordovian potato. In the village there are 3 general and music schools, a college of meat and dairy industry, a vocational school, 2 libraries, 2 cultural centers, a central regional hospital, a polyclinic.
