Crops are dominated by chernozems (60%), a smaller proportion is occupied by gray forest (22%) and floodplain (6%) soils. Natural vegetation is represented by oak forests and meadow steppes. Under forests, about 4.1%, under bushes - 1.2% of the area.

The area is mainly agricultural. A sugar factory is located not far from the district center. Name-anthroponym: servicemen at the Atamar zasechnaya line Chufarov were the owners of the settlement. In the cultural landscape of the village stands out a complex of buildings of the monastery in honor of the Holy Trinity (1867).

In the village there is a complex of buildings of the nunnery in honor of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God (1835-1894). Monuments to soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War were established. Kurilovo is the birthplace of the famous Mordvin poet, prose writer and playwright NL Irkaev (Nikula Erkaya, 1906-1978).
